Cows First City v Country Reps
Bernie Zachulski and Mitch Cocks have become the Cows first ever Country Reps this week by being selected for the game on 25 July 2009. Both players have been in outstanding form this year and thoroughlly deserve their selections.
Big Bernie has been leading the Cows engine room up front since moving to Canberra this year. His straight hard running has been laying a great platform for the rest of the Cows attack and his bruising defence has left many opposition in pain. A massive knock out a few weeks ago was not enough to keep Bernie off the pitch and this selection is a reward for a great season.
Former Arscott custodian Mitch Cocks has been a valuable member of the Cows this year and has shown his commitment to the Cows this year by making his way down the Hume Highway each weekend and bustling through defensive lines. He has led the Cows try scoring charts for most of the year and will prove to be more than a handful for the City Slickers when he makes his Country debut.
A new addition to the NSW Tertiary Student Rugby League representative calendar, the Country v City clash gives a chance for some of the best players from the NSW Tertiary League competition to battle it out and stake their claim for selection in the NSW representative team to tour Serbia from 28 September to 15 October 2009.
Played under residential rules (meaning players are eligible based upon the club they play for rather than where they come from) the City team is made up of the Metropolitan based clubs that participate in the NSW Tertiary League, whilst Country both get to pick from the rural based clubs and the clubs on the fringes of the Sydney basin and Canberra.
